GST officer faces people's ire for entering BRTS lane - GST NEWS

SURAT: A GST OFFICER had to face the ire of people for allegedly flouting rules and driving is official car in BRTS lane in Surat city on Wednesday.

Not only did the officer face the music of commuters, but also got a taste of Surti abuses forcing him to flee from the spot leaving his car and driver. A video of the incident went viral on the social media.



The incident took place near Jamnagar BRTS bus stop on canal corridor. A white car with Gujarat state registration number and a big board ‘Govt of India GST Surat’ entered the BRTS lane on Wednesday evening.



But the auto opening gate at the bus stop did not open for the private car. The driver insisted on getting the gate opened. The officer in the car claimed that he was not doing anything wrong. In the video that went viral on social media the GST officer is heard saying: “I am government officer and I am allowed in this lane.”



However, while the argument with the BRTS personnel was on, a bus arrived from behind and nearby crowd also gathered at the spot. Majority of the commuters insisted that the officers car should not be allowed to pass.



With growing chaos the GST officer escaped from the spot leaving the car and the driver. Meanwhile, the BRTS personnel informed Khatodara police, which detained the driver and seized the carto clear the traffic on the route.

A senior officer of Khatodara police said, “We will slap penalty on the car owner as per rules.”.
