GST officials search office of former Calangute MLA

Panaji: A search was recently conducted at the office of former Calangute MLA Agnelo Fernandes for suspected tax evasion, said commissioner of Central GST K Anpazhakan.

“There was no raid. A team of officers went to check for tax evasion,” said Anpazhakan, adding, “Prima facie there is no dispute.”

Officials have collected documents from Fernandes’ office to verify if GST and service tax were not paid during the construction of a hotel belonging to the Congress leader.

“The investigation will take some days,” Anpazhakan said. “Unless we go through the documents we cannot say anything. Quantification of the liability, if any, will take some time.”

Meanwhile, talking to TOI, Fernandes confirmed that GST officials had inspected his office and documents on Friday.
